Is it possible to use the word 'practice' for any kind of profession or business? Is it okay to say 'private practice' instead of 'private teaching' ?

The main areas of work which are "practiced" are medicine and law so those would be the ones I would expect to hear "private practice" used with although there may be others.

I don't think it's possible to simply use the phrase for any occupation done in a private capacity, no.
