    Default Comprehension Difficulties

    Dear teachers,

Being a layman in US law, I have some difficulties in understanding the following extract. Would you please tell me what the underlined phrases mean? Thanks again.

"Cross-examination by defense lawyers is limited to the issue of probable cause. No jury is present, and the judge has no authority to choose between competing versions of the events"

We would be grateful if your thread titles would give more of a clue to the content.

"Comprehension difficulties" covers a multitude of possibilities. If your title were "What is the meaning of "probable cause"?" we would have much more idea what you were looking for.

    Thank you.
