    Hi

    A colored man I know claims that the rain brought him a litter of puppies.

    Does "colored man" mean that he was probably black?

    Not necessarily. Anyway, it has a dated an unacceptable feel about it now. Is there any need to mention the colour (BrE) of the man's skin?

    It's from an old book. Probably that's why the author says "colored man".
