I´m lerning english. I´m in doubt with articles use. specifically in an exercise from my book "top notch 1a" page w44.
in a restaurant
customer: do you have a breakfast special?
waitress: yes, we do. we have an/the English breakfast special and a/the continental special on the menu.
costumer: what does the continental special come with?
whats the correct answer? "a" non specific? or "the" specific?
thanks!!
Thank you very much!
But I don´t understand why.
These are the uses I learn:
- "a" is for non specific.
- "the" specific or previously mentioned.
I´m sorry for the mistakes.

That's better.
Your understanding of the rules concerning articles is fine in most cases.
Servers in cafés and restaurants, however, seem to have a knack for using a language of their own.
'That's three toasts and four bacons'. 'Who's having the prawn? Are you the crab cakes, sir?'

Thank you for your answer. But the correct use is "the" because it´s specific?
Servers use "a" or "an" is not gramatically correct? but it is correct in the context?
I´m sorry if I bother.
Both are correct and, in this particular context, there is not really a difference.
