    Post Shall I...?

    Dear teachers,

    (Nick is Mrs Bill's son)
Nick : Shall I do the shopping today, Mum?
    Mrs Bill : Yes, please.

Would you please tell me if it is appropriate to interpret the question 'Shall I do the shopping today?' as 'Is it all right if I do the shopping today?'? Or could you please tell me the best way to interpret it?

    Thank you!

The most likely interpretation is that Nick is asking his mother if he she would like him to do the shopping, in my opinion.

I agree- I would take it as an offer not a request for permission.
