Default present progressive for repeated action

"You need to walk for at least 30 minutes a day for your body to derive any significant effect from walking."

    OR

"You need to be walking for at least 30 minutes a day for your body to derive any significant effect from walking.

Could I use the present progresive to mean a relatively long period of time?

    It's not natural English.

Is it unnatural because I indicated a specific period of time?

    Would this sound better?

No, it doesn't sound better, IMO.
