    Post question

Before their sending lanterns into the sky, they wrote their wishes on those lanterns.
..... I want to know why the sentence is right, because the grammar is quite strange to me.

Hello Jean Heloise - welcome to the forum.
Yours is an odd sentence, I agree.
And I do not think that it is "right", as you say.

"Before sending their lanterns into the sky, they wrote wishes on them" is a much better sentence.
Just because something is written does not make it correct.

    John

What was the answer your teacher said was wrong? It's possible the answer key was wrong.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
