when + present continuous

I know that in general when we have a time clause we use the present simple and also the past tenses , but not the future(except in special cases)
Therefore my question is: can I use the present continuous in a time clause(of course not with future intend)?Is there a difference when using it?
e.g.

When I am doing this ,I feel awful.

or is better

When I do this ,I feel awful.

Both are correct.

There is no reason why there should not be future reference -

When I am relaxing on the beach next week, I'll be thinking of you guys hard at work in the office.

I've thought that when using the present continuous, it emphasises the fact that one action takes place at the same time as another.Is this statement right?


e.g. I watch her when she's cooking

If you use a present continuous in a clause introduced by 'when', then the action is normally taking place at the same time as another one mentioned..

Note that is is true of my sentence referring to a future time situation in post #3,
