    Default suggested + past perfect

If I want to talk about the past in the past, could I use after 'suggested' the past perfect?

e.g. I suggested you should have gone there/had gone there.

You cannot suggest that somebody do something before you suggest it!

The past perfect is inappropriate after 'I suggested...', except when you are putting forward an idea of what might have happened -

George had no idea where his daughter had gone. I suggested, that as she had mentioned visiting her mother several times, she might have gone there.

That's it! Thank you for the example!

Your use of the slash is ambiguous. Do you mean

I suggested you (should have gone there)/(had gone there).

    or

I suggested you should (have gone there)/(had gone there).

    ?
