| Literally 'cut off'. I think it comes from 'the self- control is cut off', thus 'lose temper'. 'Lose one's temper' is a traditional normal expression I think. Is there any more colloquial expression for that? Thank you. |

| In BrE, we say 'lose your rag', 'go spare', etc. |
