    Default Another question. Help please!

1- This sentence is in the 11th grade E textbook of VN, compiled by Vietnamese.
    - He was accused of having deserted his ship two months ago.
(It is adapted from "He was accused of having deserted his ship" in PEG by Thomson&Martinet.)
My question is that TWO MONTHS AGO modifies HAVING DESERTED HIS SHIP or WAS ACCUSED.

2- I signed the contract after I had talked to my manager last Monday.
The same question with LAST MONDAY to HAD TALKED TO MY MANAGER and SIGNED THE CONTRACT.

My question is that TWO MONTHS AGO modifies HAVING DESERTED HIS SHIP or WAS ACCUSED. "Having deserted his ship". IMO.

    Thank Mr/Ms bhaisahab!
    If rewritten
    - Two months ago, he was accused of having deserted his ship.
So TWO MONTHS AGO modifies WAS ACCUSED, isn't it?

By the way, I am wondering whether a country where mother tongue is not E should compile an E textbook to use in its schools.

    Best regards!

"By the way, I am wondering whether a country where mother tongue is not E should compile a E textbook to use in its schools."

Many of the questions we correct are from textbooks written by non-English speaking individuals or committees. Not only are exercise questions designed so poorly that they inhibit learning the language, but the answer keys are (for lack of proper proofing) incorrect, to boot! The learner is penalized with bad questions and incorrect answers to bad questions. A real double-whammy.

Aside from the economic advantages of publishing a text "in-house", education officials would rather use a text with several (often serious) errors, than open the doors of the nation's schools to professionals and the truths they inevitably bring in tow.
