i read a sentence in Fortune which says" Some economists worry that tax rates on income are already so high they deter work effort by both those who pay and those who get." what's the object of "pay" and "get". tax, income or efforts? thx
This isn't worded very well. You have to understand what isn't stated explicitly. Those who pay are those who pay taxes. Those who get are those who get benefits from the gov't (paid for by the taxes of others).
i see. it means if the income taxes go higher, those who have a job won't work harder to gain more money as the tax goes up with their increasing salary, while those who receive welfare would get more and hence make them feel reluctant to find a job and work hard. am i right? :)
You are correct.
Gxiang, please capitalise the first word of every sentence and the personal pronoun I.
Also, please take the trouble to write thanks in full.
