    Default ensure/assure (urgent please)

We are planning to take effective action to ensure/ assure the safety of the country's economic future.

Can I use both 'ensure' and 'assure' here?

    OR even:
We are planning to take effective action to ensure/ assure the country's economic future.

Only ensure is correct in British English - in both sentences.

Thanks for a super fast reply 5jj (nice one).

    4. To make certain; ensure: "Nothing in history assures the success of our civilization"
assure - definition of assure by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Isn't it similar to the example above though? Doesn't the example work in BrE?

Since my last post, I have done some checking. It seems that 'assure' is now acceptable in your sentence. Sorry - I was too fast.
