by coming to the net
What doet this "coming to the net" mean? In the game or her practicing time? The spectators can't watch her practice in common time.
ex)If you've ever watched Chris Evert play tennis, you would notice that this great player could have improved her game by coming to the net more often. Evert knew that she couldn't be good at everything, and she didn't try to be. Knowing what her strengths and weaknesses were, she refused to obey conventional wisdom. She worked on her strong points first, and only worked on her weak points when she had time.If you look at top performers in any field, they aren't good at everything they do.They're usually great at a few things, which gets them to the top of the company ladder.
Theme- Focus on a few thing you are good at.

Re: by coming to the net
Coming to the net is a tennis term.
It is an aggressive and risky strategy used by players to win points. The player literally comes close to the net and positions herself there. The author of your text is saying that Ms. Evert should have employed this strategy more often.

Then it's a mean way to win not matching a great player, but why did the author say such a great player needs such an action? How is it related to the writing's self-help tip?

Re: by coming to the net
No, I did not say it was a "mean way to win".
You must read more carefully, Keannu.
I said that it was an "aggressive...strategy."
Moreover, the author of your text did not say that such a great player "needed" such a tactic, he said "this great player could have improved her game by coming to the net more often.
Finally, I do not know what you mean when you say "How is it related to the writing's self-help tip?". What tip? What are you talking about?

Re: by coming to the net
I filled out the missing part of the original writing. This is a question of a test with its theme as well, and from your explanation, I can judge that she worked on other tennis skills except "coming to the net", but she won the game being successful. So by this example, the author is trying to say "focus on what you are good at". Am I right?
