Could you explain to me what the sentence I wrote refers to?
Collage students were told they would be participating in research about visual perception.
Collage students were told =It was told to collage students ?

I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
Does it comprise all the verbs or just the verbs which use without any preposition like 'to' ?
For example,
I was given an apple. (that is ok) Because I used two objects in passive.
But what about one object?
' I was given' means ' someone gave an apple to us' or we can refer that ' we were given to someone or something' ?
