    Default signing your work

Would you please explain the following in red more easily?

Ask people what quality means and they will probably come up with statements they have learned like 'getting it right first time' or 'signing your work with excellence.'

    Thank you.

    'signing your work with excellence.'

    NOT A TEACHER

    (1) Thank you for teaching me that beautiful expression. I am going to copy it for my collection of inspirational quotations.

    (2) I could easily be wrong, but this is what I think it means:

Let's say that Mona designs dresses. Let's say that her dresses are truly outstanding in quality of fabric and in the way the fabric is cut and in the way the whole finished product looks.

Well, would Mona have to "sign" her name on it by "mutilating" the dress with a tag that said "Designed by Mona"?

Of course, not. Whenever rich ladies see her dresses, they exclaim:

    That must be a Mona!
