Can I use "statement" as a synonymum of "opinion" (written or verbal)?

What's your context, Lazy Bear? It can be used as a synonym to opinion if you're speaking about setting forth some argument or a point of view. Say, in the forums

statement means :
1. expression in words : the expression in spoken or written words of something such as a fact, intention, or policy, or an instance of this
a statement of intent

2. something said: something that somebody says that is not a question or an exclamation and that expresses an idea or facts in definite terms
eg .. We were unable to verify the truth of that statement .
..........
and opinion means :
personal view: the view somebody takes about an issue, especially when it is based solely on personal judgment .
eg . In my opinion it's all a waste of time.
so I think opinions can be express through statments.
