    What do you think about this sentence? ndoes it make sense? "Music would be needed in order to make peasants go back to the House of the Lord."

    It makes sense if you understand it in the sense of:

    If you wanted to make the servants go back to the House of the Lord, you would need (to provide) music.

    sorry, I meant:
    In order to make the servants go back to the House of the Lord, one would need (to provide) music.

    But why do I need to put the definite article in front of "sservants", is it not a general plural which then goes without a definite article?

    Your original sentence should be understood as: If you wanted to make peasants go back to the House of the Lord, you would need (to provide) music.

    The following is fine, if we are referring to a known group of servants: If you wanted to make the servants go back to the House of the Lord, you would need (to provide) music.
