rib-bruising
The flames soon cleared, and as Thorn [a dragon] rushed past overhead, the tip of his thick, rib-bruising tail traced a line across the membrane of her right wing.
(C. Paolini; Inheritance)
Is the part in bold supposed to mean 'that bruises ribs'?
Thanks.

It seems that the dragon has a tail that is capable of bruising ribs.
