The first sentence is from an ESL textbook for Korean middle schoolers and the book says the second sentence is not correct. I know 2) sentence sounds odd, but I can't explain to my students why 2) is wrong -grammatically.


And... what about this?

3) I put on my feet.

4) I put my feet on.

Are both 3) and 4) grammatically correct and make sense?

In #1 you put your feet on the pedals.
In #2 you put the pedals on your feet.

Neither 3 nor 4 make sense.

Your feet are attached to your body. You cannot put them on or take them off of your leg.
You can, however, put something on your feet, such as shoes or socks.
You can also put your feet on the floor or on a desk or on a table.
