    Default Use of must

    Hey,
"must" reminds me of the german "müssen" (=you have to), is that the case in english??

    Thanks!

Yes, that is the origin of the word.

Note, however, that the must is used in rather different ways from müssen. Here are some

    I must go =
(roughly)I have to go, I am obliged to go.
I must not go = I am obliged to not-go.
    I don't have to go = I needn't go = I am not obliged to go.

He must be rich = It seems logically certain that he is rich.
He can't be rich = It seems logically certain that he is not rich.

Must has no past tense or present perfect forms.
