how can i involve in forum topics? i am not an english teacher but i like to talk on english language. are we required to be an english teacher to intervene in the topics? worse, my first language is turkish.:(
Ssendur, anyone can participate- you don't have to be a teacher. Feel free to add your opinions in threads- that's how discussions get going. If ever you're not 100% sure about something, just say that you think this is the answer, etc. Not sure why having Turkish as a fist language should be worse than anything else. Oh, and welcome.![]()
because even many native english speakers dont speak english properly or grammatically correct, i witnessed that a lot. And turkish belongs to another language family which is not indo-european, the grammer is completely different. I am proud of myself though, it is a success for a turkish person to speak english fluently. Especially my reading is very well as i read a lot because of me working in information technologies, but i am not good at listening, i can not understand the entire lyrics of what is said in the movies.
I dont know how to achieve it, do you have any idea for a foreigner to understand movie language. your phonetic of english is so wierd man, i am troubled with i and e and o , isnt there any precise pronounciation of these vowels?
thank you for your answers
Hi sesendur,
I think that getting better on listening while watching a movie is to use subtitles. You can listen and read at the same time and understand it better.
Many vowel sounds are reduced to what we call the schwa sound ('uh'), and in connected speech a lot of them almost disappear. Also, we don't have a single sound for the letters- we can pronounce the same letter in many ways, unlike languages like Spanish which have one letter, one sound.
so how can i better my pronounciation? do you have some resources for me?
It's hard to make suggestions without heqaring you- if you could post an MP3 of your voice, it would give us something concrete to look at. (Zip the file if you can't attach an MP3 directly)![]()
ok, you have got the deal, i am gonna attach the mp3 file:) wait for me!
