If French Creole is the language used, then why shouldn't it be taught in schools where it is the first language. I don't see why this would cause a decline in the standard of English.

How do you feel about the use of Creole- sounds fine to me.

Well, given the source, 93% of the population speaks Kweyol, so yeah . . . teaching it in the public school system sounds perfectly natural to me. The issue is similar in many ways to the USA debate on Ebonics.

If they speak Kweyol, then English is going to be a second language and I can't see how their speaking it will have such an adverse effect on seconds language learning. If they're trying to stamp out the language and convert them into English speakers, then they'll probably find it impossible.

We have many Creole speakers in Montreal (from Haiti, the Seychelles etc). It is their first language, and they all keep it, speaking amongst themselves, even if they've emigrated here 30 years ago. However, they have to become highly proficient at speaking French. This is easy for them and they're mostly bilingual (Creole and French). Some will speak English but often it's not really necessary in Montreal

Creole speakers will hardly allow their first language to be stamped out. Whether they live in Montreal or Guatemala. Just as our first language will not be stamped out. We will just add other ones
