Default English use question: Others' vs Others

    Hi everyone

im currently writing an essay for my university coursework. in the essay, im discussing other peoples beliefs, and i was wondering about the use of a ' in the word "others"

    basically, my sentence is

    ..."knowing others' beliefs helps us...."

but should i get rid of the ' and just put

    "knowing others beliefs helps us..."

im talking about beliefs that belong to other people, so i thought a ' was necessary...

    Thanks!

Use of the apostrophe is correct.

Many learners come to this forum for models of good English. Please try to use standard capitalisation and punctuation. Thank you.

Context is important. Please provide enough for us to be able to deal effectively with your question.
Your thread title should include all or part of the word/phrase being discussed.
If you just want to know the meaning of a word, try OneLook Dictionary Search first.
