Having a foreign penpal (all one word) is a good way of practicing a language.
We don't say "a good way of + noun", you need "of + verb-ing" in this context.
Or you could say "a good way to practice a language" but "practicing" matches "having" at the beginning of the sentence.

In BrE it is 'a good way of practising...'. The verb is practise, the noun practice.
Context is always important; labelling is rarely important.
