The position of "really"

Assuming that you pronounce "really" in a neutral, non-stressed manner, do both sentences have the same meaning, regardless of the position of the adverb? (In reality, Mona, not Tom, did it.)

Of the two I would only use (1). You could say "Everybody thinks that Tom did it, but really it was MONA."
