    Default move on heights?

What is this "move on heights"? Is it "move on the highest(strongest) level"?

ex)To the majority of people, Einstein's theory is a complete mystery. ,,,,Einstein, therefore , is greate in the public eye partly because he has made revolutionary discoveries which cannot be translated into the common tongue. We stand in proper awe of a man whose thoughts move on heights far beyond our range, whose achievements can be measured only by the few who are able to follow his reasoning and challenge his conclusions.

It's say his thought move "in" the lofty, high spaces, in the upper reaches of our knowledge. It's metaphorical, of course, but would be more easily understood (for me) if it said "in" instead of "on."

I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

Your ideas may be at four (if we are to place some sort of gauge on ideas) while his may have been at eight. There are possibility higher levels that ideas may reach. The "move on heights" seems to mean that his ideas roamed in places that most people cannot understand.
