Default how to use the word "lie"

    Dear all,

    1. Don't tell a lie.
    2. Don't tell me a lie.
    3. Don't tell a lie to me.
    4. Don't lie.
    5. Don't lie to me.

    Are the expressions all okay?

    Thank you!

All are possible. I find "Don't lie to me" the most natural and between your #2 and #3, I prefer the word order in #2.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    In the right context, yes.
