Default persist vs. insist

Hello teachers,

As a foreign language learner, I am quite confused with these two words: persist and insist. I am wondering if there is anyway to distinguish the two words and to use them properly.

Thanks.

Persists refers to something that remains regardless of what it's done to augment, diminish, or erase it. Insists refers to trying to continually reinforce it.
