    Default Before

    Hello,

I would like to have your opinion about the following sentence:

There is a difficult situation at the office. I know my boss has a tough task before him.

I am mainly concerned about the preposition. Is it correct to use "before"? Does it sound natural?

    Thank you for helping me.

It's not very natural in modern English, I'd use "in front of".

    What about "ahead of"?

    Thank you.

    Yes, that would be OK.

I would use "ahead of". I'm wondering why there is a comma after "I know".

I know my boss has a tough task ahead of him.

Or did you mean a silent repetition of the first part of the statement, effectively making it "I know there's a difficult situation at the office, [because] my boss has a tough task ahead of him".

Oops! Just a slip of the pen.

    Thank you.

I read it as a dialogue with the quotes missing.
