Are the following sentences correct? If so, can they be improved?


Although plays were staged at the school auditorium every year, the quality of performance was not very high. The auditorium was usually full as the local people had little or no access to better entertainments. English plays were also staged occasionally. I remember watching Shakespeare’s Macbeth staged in 1996.

The auditorium was usually full as the local people had little or no access to better entertainments. English plays were also staged occasionally. I remember watching Shakespeare’s Macbeth staged (maybe "performed" would be better to avoid overuse of "staged") in 1996.
