    Default Being -2 examples

Hi, I was wondering of anyone could help me with this grammar?

Could you please tell me the difference of being in these two sentences:

    1. The opinions presented were far from being original.

    2. The opinions being presented were far from original.

    Many thanks

    J

The word being has the same meaning in both sentences.

"being" and its placement is not the issue here. It can be used once, twice, or not at all in both sentences. You're making a false dichotomy.
The difference in usage comes from whether "being" is used in the verb or not.

The following is one (and only one - mine) way of seeing a difference:
    1. is focussing on the present. "The opinions [which were] presented were far from [being] original. So I'm going to review the papers before the next seminar."

    2. is focussing on the time it happened. "The opinions being presented were far from [being] original. So I left the lecture and went for a coffee."

You could also use "which were being presented", etc. as the verb, and they will all have different nuances to some people and not to others.
