    Default make his day

What does the following in red mean in the context?

Whether you're flying cross-country or walking to an adjacent office space, the face-to-face recognition of another person will often make his day and strengthen your relationship with him.

    Thank you.

What the writer is saying is that addressing someone by their name or otherwise acknowledging that you know him/remember him will please that person in the short term and build a solid relationship in the long term.

If you take the time to say "Hi Fred, did you have a good week-end?" on Monday morning as you walk past Fred's office/cubicle instead of just nodding at him or ignoring him completely, you'll make a positive impression with him. If one day Fred becomes your boss, he'll remember how earnest and engaging you always were to him.

    *** NOT A TEACHER ***

Interestingly, the saying, "Make my day!", became widespread when it was used by Clint Eastwood in the 1983 movie, "Sudden Impact". "Dirty" Harry Callahan's line (when Callahan dares a crook to shoot his hostage) "Go ahead, make my day." became a catchphrase.
