It is not acceptable. It is also difficult to correct, because the presence of food which is past it's 'best-before' date does not affect the efficiency (i.e, smooth operation of the motor) of the fridge How about this? -
To avoid risk of contamination of food in your fridge, make sure that you regularly remove all food that has been there beyond its recommended storage time.
Context is always important; labelling is rarely important.
