Please, help with this sentence:
It's not good when some words and phrases in my story sound awkward.
OR: It's not good when some words and phrases sound awkward in my story.
I'm always confused with such sentences.

The above-mentioned sentence is better, though your first sentence can be correct too. Your first sentence can be a little confusing to the listener.

The first sounds better to me.
Context is important. Please provide enough for us to be able to deal effectively with your question.
