drop the ash off a cigarette

As the title states, does English have (or, are you aware of) a word/phrasal verb for the action described as dropping the ash off a cigarette? To be specific, when you tip the head of a cigarette in order to drop the ash into the ashtray.

According to this site How to Enjoy a Cigarette Wiki: 8 steps, the verb is 'ash (your cigarette'. I had not encountered this term.

Thank you, somebody suggested me "to ash", but I couldn't (still cannot) find it in the dictionary (as a verb, of course). So, it's OK to use it? Will native speakers understand it (I know, it's a little bit self explanatory even with little context)?

I thought you flicked the ashes off a cigarette. Flick can also mean to dispose of the finished cigarette by using your fingers to fling it away. Like, say out the car window.

If you're holding the cigarette over an ashtray and tapping it with your finger so that the ash falls off, I would say "tapping" or "knocking" the ash off.

If you are using your thumb to make the cigarette make a more forceful movement, I would say "flicking" the ash off.

I haven't heard of "to ash" either.

I've found "shake off" on the web but I find it strange. How does one shake the ash off a cigarette? I'm trying it right now and it doesn't work.

Maybe your tobacco is too sticky. Have you tried Egyptian tobacco? ;)

I haven't, no. Is it good? I haven't seen it where I live though, unless we count Camel.
