    Default was opposed to/opposed to

    Hi,

The new management was opposed to all of us.
The new management opposed to all of us.

My tutor told me the first sentence is correct. But "oppose" is a verb, why couldn't the second one also be correct?

    Thanks a lot

Because the first is the past participle of the verb used as an adjective. If you wanted to use oppose as a verb you would have to say "The new management opposed us".
