Teacher Re: police The Feds/feds is also used. It has crossed over from the US to Britain- it came to public attention in the recent riots in the UK, where the suspect who was shot by police texted to his partner that the feds were on his tail. The Wikipedia page suggests that it refers to the FBI and higher federal law enforcement, but in the UK it is being used by many as another term for the police in general.
