I know we can use (since) only with present perfect, but this sentence is simple present. Is it correct at all? Maybe in iformal English?

Maybe, in an extremely informal conversation between recent immigrants, but I find it awkward and lacking in clarity.

Rather than "Is it correct at all?", you might wish to consider "Is it totally wrong?"or "Is any part correct?"
