There is an expression in English "to provide the grounds" but it does not seem to fit in this sentence.

If I had to make a choice I would choose 1) Grounds.
But, I would also ask my teacher to explain the answer in light of the definition of: Grounds - factors forming a basis for action or the justification for a belief. For example there are some grounds for optimism | they called for a retrial on the grounds of the new evidence.
