how to ask someone, which position/number(the order they born) among their family/brothers and sisters.

I have a question. How to do we ask someone, which position/number (the order in which they were born) they are among their family (brothers and sisters).

Hello, and welcome to the forum. Please look at the amendments I have made to your post above. Concentrate on the use of full sentences (the first sentence, for example).

It's not really something we ask people very often, but I would use something like:

- Where do you come in your family?
- Are you the eldest of your brothers and sisters?
- Do you have brothers and sisters? Are they older or younger than you?

In BrE, I don't think there is one standard natural sentence which says what you want.

Bishrul, to add to what ems has just said, we get this question at least once a month.

English does not have a way to ask "how manieth" so that you get "third" or "42nd" as the answer.

Some have suggested elaborate and completely unnatural ways to ask the question that ensures the answer is an ordinal number (if the person you asked even understood you).

In fact, if you want to know that Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States, you can just say "What number president was Lincoln?" You may hear "16," but you'll probably hear "16th." Either way, you've still received the same essential information.
