    Default turnover = upside down?

    Context:

Atmospheric Carbon Injection Linked to End-Triassic Mass Extinction

Theend-Triassic mass extinction (~201.4million yearsago),marked by terrestrial ecosystem turnover and up to ~50% loss in marine biodiversity, has been attributed to intensified volcanic activity duringthebreak-upofPangaea.Here,wepresentcompound-specificcarbon-isotopedataoflong-chain n-alkanes derived from waxes ofland plants, showing a ~8.5 per mil negative excursion, coincident with the extinction interval. These data indicate strong carbon-13 depletion of the end-Triassic
atmosphere,withinonly10,000to20,000years.Themagnit udeandrateofthiscarbon-cycle disruption 3 can be explained by the injection of at least ~12 × 10 gigatons of isotopically depleted carbon
as methane into the atmosphere. Concurrent vegetation changes reflect strong warming and an
    enhancedhydrologicalcycle.Hence,end-Triassiceventsarerobustlylinkedtomethane-derivedmassive
    carbonrelease and associated climate change.

    OrshouldI ask-whatinheaven's-name happened tothefomatting??

    Turnover - replacement.
When shift two comes in to work in factor and shift one goes home, that's the shift turnover.

I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
