I have this context, I now can't speak English well, I say to my friend that "The time when I can (or could?) speak English well is so far". If possible, could you please correct that sentence for me?

"The time when I will be able to speak English well is very far away."
It would be more natural to say, "It will be a long time before I can speak English well".
