Default How to explain this type of exam

    Hi there

I had this exam, which I wanted to explain to an English friend, but I was not exactly sure how to word it. So here is a try:

It is an exam, where you have to do a paper in 48 hours, which you then have submit online. So there is not written test, just this paper you have to do in 48 hours.

So do you understand what I mean?

Well, if you have to submit something, then it is a form of 'written' test/exam. Do you have to answer questions, or write an essay?
Context is always important; labelling is rarely important.

I have to write an essay in 48 hours, which I am then going to submit online. This counts as the exam of this subject.

I'd call it a 'timed essay'.

    Ok.

But you do understand what I mean, from my description of it?

    And thanks a lot!

I understand what you mean. It is a written examination/test, as opposed to an oral or a practical one, whether it is submitted online or written in an examination room, and it is a timed essay. I don't know of any specific term for a timed essay that has to be submitted online
