I'm wondering if the following is ok, especially the underlined part. Don't you think "devotion" is better? Or is it just a matter of personal taste?
It's nothing important. They just think they love each other, it must be one of those youth loves. You can easily understand it from the sweet nothings they exchange.
By the way, is "from" the correct preposition for "understand" here? Or maybe "by"?

Maybe "youthful infatuations" or "puppy loves". I think "from" is OK, but "by" would work too.
