Which of the following sentences is correct? Thank you very much.
A. What did you do at 10 o'clock last night?
B. What were you doing at 10 o'clock last night?
In my opinion, B is correct. If A is also acceptable, then the verbs in the response should be limited to the verbs not used in the progressive. For example, I called my uncle at 10 o'clock last night. Since in this context there are not many verbs of this group, my question is, in practice do native speakers say "What did you do at 10 o'clock last night?" Thank you again.
It depends. If you are inquiring about what activity/action was in progress at 10 PM, then "B." is correct. However, if for example, there was some prearranged activity scheduled for 10 PM, then "A."would be OK.
