    Default Question about a definition

    Hi Teachers,
Could you tell me if the explanation given to the underlined words sounds natural?
The man is disturbing her because he is snoring.
    Explanation:
When someone who is sleeping is snoring, they produce a strident sound when they respire.
    Thanks in advance

As your question is about Snoring, that would have been a better thread title.

I prefer the WordReference Dictionary definition of snore:
a snorting or grunting sound in a person's breathing while they are asleep.
Snoring is not always strident and respire is not a commonly used word.

So sorry for my inappropriate thread title and thank you for your reply.
On the other hand, if i use 'respire' it is because the verb is very similar to 'respirar' which is the Spanish one. Much easier to understand to my students than the verb 'breathe'.

You students may understand 'respire', but they will sound very unnatural if they use it. As Rover pointed out, it is not commonly used.

Context is always important; labelling is rarely important.
