Default Need advice on the use of tenses, thanks teachers

What tense should I be using when I am writing a diary entry of what happened today? For example in a diary entry of what happened today:

Today, I (am or was) very happy because I performed in a recital. I think my behaviour today (is or was) fine, though a little bit energetic.
Please advice, teachers. Thanks

First the first, I'd use the present as you sund as if you're still happy. For the second, I'd use the past because the recital has finished.
