How should I understand that?

Does "matching" here means to put a match to it, so that it will start to burn, to turn it into flames, or it means that I match somehow to that ego, that it is in me? Thanks for help.

I don't use the verb in the first sense, so it would have to be the second, but it doesn't make a great deal of sense to me.
