Look who’s here. Chris is back on the show after a long time.
Hi,
This is another line from a TV show.
I don't know why but somehow "after a long time" in the sentence sounds somewhat non-native and a bit clumsy.
Am I wrong to think that?
Would there be a better substitute for "after a long time"?
"after a while"
"after a long absence"
Essentially, the speaker is saying that he is pleased to have the individual back on the show, and expressing that the individual has separated himself for a lengthy period.
I would say, "Chris is FINALLY back here."
